Edgar, like Nomar Garciaparra, was meticulous about his bats. Martinez would inspect the quality of his bats and would frequently measure the weight of his bats. You will often times find the weight of the bat written on the knob of the bat and sometimes, re-weighed as pine tar and tape were added to the bat. Edgar swung a 33.75" 30oz-32oz bat and was known for his heavy amounts of tar. Sometimes the pine tar was strictly around the center label, other times mota stick and tar would carry all the way up the handle. Edgar would also frequently tape his handles in a criss cross pattern. Martinez preferred LVS, he would sometimes switch to Rawlings as well. For a brief time, he tried out D Bats. Martinez had his own turning model at LVS, the M343 and M356, these were his batting averages when he won the batting titles. The M343 being the more scarce model. Edgar did sign and inscribe some of his bats with the year the bat was used or with "gamer" which were sold through Millcreek Sports.
